This police officer has been arrested on suspicion of having sexual intercourse with his son’s 13-year-old female school friend.

The 43-year-old cop, identified in reports by the initials V.Z., was arrested in the town of Mionica in the Kolubara District in western Serbia after explicit text messages were found on the teen girl’s mobile phone by her mother.

Reports state the girl’s mother, who has not been named, had noticed her daughter acting strangely and decided to check the girl’s mobile phone.

She reportedly found explicit messages on the phone and reported the case to the police. The girl is said to have told investigators that she was in a “romantic” relationship with the suspect and that she had “practically fallen in love with him”.

The man was allegedly involved in a sexual relationship with the girl from March until his arrest in June and is said to have driven her to hidden places in the Mionica area to have sexual intercourse.

The girl reportedly told investigators that she had willingly had sex with the suspect who has been arrested and will remain in custody for 30 days. He has not given a statement to police.

Local media report the suspect has three children, one of whom is a school friend of the victim.

According to neighbours of the suspect, he knew the girl’s parents well, telling reporters: “They were not best friends but they knew each other well.”

They added that he suffered a family tragedy a few years ago, saying: “His child drowned… Later he found a new wife, and went down the wrong path”

His daughter reportedly drowned in a bucket of water in front of the family home about ten years ago. 

The schoolgirl he reportedly had sex with is said to have willingly engaged in sexual intercourse with the suspect who now faces between five and 12 years in prison for statutory rape.

In Serbia, statutory rape law is violated when the suspect has consensual sexual contact with a person under the age of 14.

The investigation is ongoing and it is unclear if the suspect has been charged.
