A 104-year-old grandmother from Connecticut has fulfilled her lifelong dream to hold a penguin.
Bertha Komor’s dream came true with the help of her caregivers and the organisations Mystic Aquarium and Twilight Wish CT.
Bertha, who admits she is yet to figure out the secret of her long happy life and marriage, got to tick ‘penguin holding’ off her bucket list following a trip to Mystic Aquarium in the village of Mystic in the US state of Connecticut.
At 104 years of age, Bertha said she “didn’t expect this” when proffered a penguin to hold.
She told local media: “Best part was petting him and seeing him close up.”
Bertha’s daughter and granddaughter, who were in on the surprise, accompanied the Connecticut centenarian to the aquarium for the occasion.
Granddaughter Karen Rivkin said: “I am just so excited for her and just so happy that she was able to have this wish come true and to just have been in our life for as long as she has.”
When asked what the secret is to her long happy life and marriage, Bertha told local media: “I don’t know, I haven’t figured that out yet.”
Hopefully, Bertha will continue to fulfil dreams on her bucket list and live long enough to work it out and tell us all.
