Overcrowded Plane Crashes With 2 Children On Board

These images show the plane which crashed with six people on board – including a baby and a child – as it took off in Brazil.

The incident took place as the Cessna Aircraft R182 plane was taking off from the Manaus Aeroclub in the northern Brazilian state of Amazonas, heading for the town of Itaituba in the state of Para.

Local media report the plane was overcrowded, with six people on board despite having a capacity for just four.

The Amazonas Military Fire Brigade report that the plane passed straight over the runway during take-off and fell into a ditch.

Local media report the six people on-board were injured and trapped in the wreck.

Firefighters and paramedics arrived on the scene and images show them attending to the victims.

The Amazonas governor’s office said in a statement: “The adult passengers, two men aged 20 and 49 years old, and two women aged 38 and 31 years old, were taken to the Joao Lucio and 28 de Agosto Emergency Hospitals.

“The 28-year-old woman had light abrasions and is being evaluated by an obstetrician. The other women suffered a small cut to her leg and remains under observation.”

The statement said the two men suffered mild abrasions and are both under observation.

It is unclear if the pilot is among the six victims.

The two minor victims, a six-year-old child and an 11-month-old baby were taken to the West Zone Emergency Children’s Hospital.

The children reportedly underwent evaluations with a neurosurgeon, orthopedist, GP, and paediatrician, with examinations and scans showing no fractures.

The scene was cordoned off because of a risk of explosion and the Brazilian Air Force have launched an investigation as well as the Regional Service for the Investigation and Prevention of Aeronautical Accidents to determine the cause of the accident.

It is unclear if the victims were all members of the same family.
