Furious zoo chiefs plan to use images of this chimpanzee rummaging through rubbish and drinking the contents of a discarded bottle to complain about people throwing litter in cages.
The incident was filmed at the La Pastora Zoo in the city of Guadalupe in the northern Mexican state of Nuevo Leon and was widely shared on social media.
In the footage, the chimp is sitting among a pile of rubbish before drinking the last dregs from a bottle he has found among the trash.
Zoo director of operations Alfonso Rodriguez told local media that they plan to use the video to highlight the fact people are throwing rubbish to the animals.
He added that anyone caught throwing items to the zoo animals will be escorted off the premises.
Rodriguez said: “It is lamentable that this kind of behaviour takes place in the zoo, but measures are being taken to make people aware that it is not allowed. Culprits will be asked to leave the premises.”
Netizen ‘Joss Sanchez’ commented: “Like always, zoo visitors are not nice and I have seen people throwing rubbish to the animals, no matter if something is said to them. They are a bad example as they throw it in front of children.”
‘Eglaes Garcia’ said: “It has always been like this. No politician has ever given a damn, quite the contrary.”
