This is the moment a Russian orchestra performs songs from every floor of a block of flats during COVID-19 lockdown.

The performance was filmed by onlookers in the city of Kolomna in the western Russian region of Moscow Oblast, and the footage was later widely shared on social media.

The orchestra reportedly performed songs with two or three musicians on every balcony.

In the footage, the orchestra is seen performing from the balconies as a small group of people look on from the pavement.

One man, who local media said is the conductor, is seen keeping time with the orchestra.

According to reports, the Kolomna Philharmonic Orchestra played the theme from the cartoon ‘Town Musicians of Bremen’ as well as ‘Den Pobedy’ (‘Victory Day’) dedicated to the surrender of Nazi Germany in 1945.

Local media said the musicians were divided into groups of two or three and they took their positions on every floor of the block of flats.

It was the first time the Kolomna Philharmonic Orchestra had ever performed for the public from their balconies.

However, it was not the first performance to become a social media hit in Russia during COVID-19 containment measures.

A saxophonist enjoyed a viral hit with a video of him playing for his neighbours while another thoughtful resident decided to project Charlie Chaplin films onto building walls to keep locals entertained.
