This is the moment supporters for an Omani top-flight club chant “corona corona” referring to the coronavirus potentially stopping the league prematurely crowning their side champions.

The incident took place after a decisive Omani top-tier, Oman Professional League, match in home side Al-Seeb FC’s 1-1 draw with Dhofar Club at Al-Seeb Stadium.

Al-Seeb sit top of the league with 50 points as Dhofar are second trailing by five with three matchdays left in the season making it a tight finish.

The draw helped Al-Seeb maintain their top position and helps them edge closer to reaching their historic first-ever Omani league title.

The video shows the moment several fans can be seen wearing their club colours and kits while dancing. Several can be seen walking around what is apparently a fake cup representing the Oman Professional League trophy.

Percussion is heard in the background as fans repeatedly sing “corona corona” referring to COVID-19.

It is unclear if the club faces any sanctions for the incident.

Initial reports claimed the league could potentially stay as it now stands if cancelled early as there were only three matches left in the season giving the trophy to Al-Seeb by default.

However, the Oman Football Association held an emergency meeting yesterday (Wednesday) due to the COVID-19 pandemic and suspended the league but it is set to continue in September.

There have been a reported 24 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Oman without any deaths, however, the pandemic has claimed the lives of 9,177 people from 217,845 cases across the globe.
