The hollowed-out rolls each contained a bag of blue pills, believed to be synthetic heroin.

Newsflash obtained a statement from Mexico’s National Guard on Tuesday, 15th November, saying that the pills were discovered at a courier company during a search by sniffer dogs.

The incident took place in the city of Culiacan, in the Mexican state of Sinaloa, with the authorities saying: “In compliance with the National Public Security Strategy and to contribute to the National Addiction Prevention Strategy Together for Peace, in Sinaloa, National Guard (GN) personnel seized approximately two thousand pills of apparent fentanyl hidden inside pieces of artisanal bread.”

The authorities explained that they had raided the courier company and checked a number of packages, before suddenly one of the dogs spotted a suspicious cardboard box

The authorities added: “The national guards carried out a more thorough inspection and located inside the shipment two bags of fried tortillas known as tortilla chips, as well as a package of homemade bread filled with blue fentanyl-like pills.

“The possible narcotic was secured and made available at the office of the Attorney General of the Republic (FGR) based in Culiacan, to continue the corresponding investigations.
