A deranged man who attacked a police station with a chainsaw and then barricaded himself into his home with his terrified children has been seized by officers.

Astonished police watched on as the suspect, identified by police as Brien Buckley, 35, in Cohasset, Massachusetts State, USA – tried to cut through security doors to get into the building.

Cohasset Police Department said in a statement obtained by Newsflash today, 19th December: “At about 2:30 pm on Sunday, December 18, 2022, Cohasset Police Officers received a frantic call from the civilian desk attendant at police headquarters reporting that a male had driven over the lawn of the police station, hit a tree on the property, exited his pick-up truck, and then entered the lobby revving a gas-powered chain saw.

“The man began to damage the lobby of the station with the saw and was chopping at the security door, attempting to gain entry into a restricted area where the attendant was. “

Local Police Chief Bill Quigley said he was only foiled when a civilian on duty at reception hit an emergency button bringing officers rushing to the area.

He said: “We did have a civilian desk attendant on. She was able to barricade herself and call officers to assist her.”

The suspect fled to his home still armed with the chainsaw and, according to police, barricaded himself inside with his two children, both aged under five.

Cohasset Police Department said: “After hours-long negotiations, the male became more erratic to the point where SWAT supervisors sought permission to enter the home due to the increasingly clear and present danger to the children.”

The police also said: “The suspect was brought down using an Electronic Control Weapon (ECW), commonly referred to as a Taser.”

The suspect was taken into custody and then to a local hospital.
