This is the moment a confused pensioner believed to have muddled the pedals beneath his feet reverses through a junction and mows down a scooter rider as his wife screams in shock.

The accident happened in the city of Tainan on 22nd November as Mr Wang, 75, and his wife, 73, were both in the car.

Dashcam footage from Mr Wang’s people carrier shows him suddenly reversing away from his roadside parking spot, surprising his spouse who begins screaming.

The vehicle shoots backwards through the small junction and sends an unsuspecting scooter rider flying off his vehicle onto the road.

Mr Wang’s people carrier continues backwards until it reportedly crashes to a stop against two parked cars, a tree and a road sign.

His wife, who is thought to have been in the front passenger seat at the time, appears to be in a state of panic throughout the accident.

Tainan police said Mr Wang and his wife were not harmed during the scare, while the scooter rider suffered non-life threatening fractures to his hand and foot.

Reports said the pensioner mistook his accelerator pedal for the brake, but may also have shifted into the wrong gear.

The pensioner was cleared of drink-driving suspicion, but investigations are still ongoing.
