A convicted paedophile in his sixties has been jailed a third time for sexually assaulting a neighbour’s six-year-old granddaughter.
The unnamed defendant, previously convicted of raping and sexually assaulting two minors, was sentenced to eight years in prison by the criminal court of Reims in the northern French department of Marne, according to reports.
The incident took place in summer 2018 when the OAP was invited round to a neighbour’s house while her daughter and granddaughter were visiting for the holidays.
The elderly predator found himself alone with the six-year-old girl while the grandmother was smoking a cigarette on the balcony and sexually assaulted her.
The young victim only reported the attack last year and the man was arrested on 26th January.
During the recent trial, the defendant reportedly maintained his innocence throughout.
According to local media, he was sentenced to 13 years in prison in 1995 for raping a minor, and after being released early on conditions, he received a six-year jail term in 2001 for sexually assaulting another young victim.
The sentences were handed down in the region of Picardie and he was then moved to Reims.
Reports said that he will be monitored for 10 years when his latest prison sentence is up.
He is also obliged to take care of himself and must no longer have contact with minors.
The man, who is in his early sixties, will receive three further years in prison if he fails to comply with these measures.
