An OAP in her eighties has been found mummified in her home three months after she died without anybody noticing.
The gruesome discovery took place in the Spanish city of Vigo on the country’s north-western coast, on Monday, 15th May.
The body was taken to the Nicolas Pena Hospital for examination and it was determined that the elderly woman, who has not been named but who was said to be over 80 at the time of her death, had passed away in January.
Investigators also determined that the last time she had picked up her prescribed medication was in December.
The examination of her body also revealed that she had died of natural causes and that her body had become mummified due to the heat in her home and a lack of humidity.
It is unclear if the woman had any relatives.
Spanish media called loneliness one of the forgotten pandemics of the 21st century, saying that the number of suicides has skyrocketed and the public budget is insufficient when it comes to mental health.
Spanish media also said that 13.4 per cent of people in the country suffer from unwanted loneliness, according to data from this year, and that it was also not a short-term problem.
They said that in most cases, people had been in a situation of being alone for approximately six years.
