According to local media, the street seller is dubbed ‘Uncle Bugis’ by local residents and he sells tissue paper in the area.

Reports said that he attacked the railway worker because he tried to stop Uncle Bugis from selling his wares outside the station.

Many netizens criticised the mobility scooter user while others emphasised with his tough living situation.

One online commentator said: “It is not easy for an old person to make a living today.”

However, some netizens claimed the elderly man is a known troublemaker who shouts at people at the station and hits bus doors with his walking stick if the driver fails to see him.

He also reportedly asks passersby for 10 SGD (5.6 GBP).

Railway spokeswoman Margaret Teo said: “Our station staff advised an elderly personal mobility aid (PMA) user that the selling of items is not permitted within the station premises.

“An altercation subsequently occurred between the PMA user and our staff.”

A complaint has been filed with the police and the rail authority is assisting them with their investigation, according to reports.
