An OAP has been taken to hospital after crashing her Mercedes Benz into her home in startling fashion when she suffered a “dizzy spell”.

The 68-year-old woman, who has not been named in reports, was pulling into her home with a female passenger when she crashed into her home in the town of Verulam in South Africa’s KwaZulu-Natal province.

Local media report the OAP had suffered a “dizzy spell” as she was pulling into her drive and had accelerated all the down onto her patio which is set a few metres below street level.

In the photos, the silver can be seen on its side having crashed into the metal awning. The car’s rear end is poking up at street level while the bonnet has crashed through the railings of the patio.

The South African Reaction Unit confirmed they had worked with firefighters to free the elderly driver and her passenger.

They confirmed they had used “pneumatic tools” to free the woman and the driver was treated by paramedics before being transferred to Umhlanga Hospital.

Reaction Unit spokesperson Prem Balram said that driver had suffered injuries to her head and spine in the incident. The passenger was reportedly unharmed.

There are no updates on the driver’s condition.
