This is the moment a pensioner falls on an escalator when the handrail she is holding suddenly stops and she is left clinging on for dear life as the steps continue to move.
The accident happened on a faulty escalator at Cuizhu Station, which is on Line 1 of the Changzhou Metro in East China’s Jiangsu Province.
The CCTV footage dated 21st September shows the unnamed woman, reportedly in her 60s, stepping gingerly onto the descending escalator after another elderly male passenger.
She holds the handrail for support but suddenly finds herself falling over when the the rubber belt stops but the steps between her feet do not.
Both she and the male passenger ahead of her tumble on the still moving escalator, with the man ahead appearing to avoid injuries as he sits down.
The woman, however, fails to let go of the handrail in her panic and clings on for dear life as the escalator steps continue to brush past her body from below.
The incident is spotted by a staff member at the train station who rushes over to stop the escalator before helping the pensioner to her feet.
According to reports, the woman was treated for minor injuries, while no others are thought to have been hurt.
The faulty escalator in question has been shut and is being inspected.
It is unclear whether the pensioner stands to be compensated for the incident.
