This footage – seen over a million times – shows a mother screaming for help while fighting off a pensioner who began randomly attacking parents and children in a park with pliers.

Police officers who later arrested the suspect, 69-year-old Kang, have yet to determine his motives.

The chaotic scenes filmed in Shengli Park in the city of Zhangjiakou, which is in North China’s Hebei Province, show local residents screaming as Kang, who was identified by his surname, attacks two schoolgirls with the pliers.

The girls cover their heads as Kang turns his attention to the screaming mother wearing a pink coat who fights back with nothing but a water bottle.

Kang is eventually pushed away by male residents in the park, and he is shoved to the ground by other passers-by as the abrupt violence ends.

One elderly woman is seen clutching the top of her head as blood streaks down her face, the video shows.

In an online statement, local police said Kang injured five schoolchildren and three adults.

He was arrested at the scene and investigations into the seemingly random attack are still ongoing.

None of the victims is thought to be in any life-threatening condition.
