This is the moment a young nurse – who risked her life to move to Wuhan to help the sick – breaks down in tears after a COVID-19 patient thanks her and bows respectfully as she finally leaves the hospital fully recovered.

The incident, which apparently involved several other patients also thanking the nurse, took place at Tongji Hospital, affiliated with the Tongji Medical College of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, in the city of Wuhan in the eastern Chinese province of Hubei.

According to local media, nurse Wang Jiaqi, who normally works at a hospital in Jilin Province, started working at the Wuhan hospital on 9th February.

She told local media: “To be honest, I felt a little frightened before I departed, but I knew it was my responsibility.

“In recent days, despite the hard work, I can still feel the warmth of the patients’ understanding and respect.

“The most beautiful thing in Wuhan is not the blooming sakura [cherry blossom], but the grateful hearts of the people.”

According to reports, four COVID-19 patients were discharged from the hospital after making a full recovery and they bowed in front of the nurse and wrote letters of thanks.

The grateful patients wrote: “You are the heroes who work to save all the people of Wuhan.

“We believe that after many years we will still remember you and what you have done to save our lives.

“Please come back to the city in your spare time when the epidemic is over. We will be here waiting for you.”
