A 23-year-old nurse has been arrested for attempting to kill her lover’s wife by tripping, drugging and burning her so it looked like a motorbike accident.

The woman, whose name has not been revealed, was arrested in the city of Medellin in the north-western Colombian department of Antioquia for an attempted murder in the municipality of Girardota on 12th April.

Investigators believe that the nurse used a tripwire stretched across a road to make her lover’s wife fall of her motorbike.

She then allegedly injected a cocktail of tramadol and clonazepam into her bottom to make the victim pass out.

Afterwards, she set the motorbike alight and burned the woman, according to reports.

The 26-year-old wife suffered second-degree burns to her thorax and was rushed to Hospital San Rafael Ese in Girardota in a serious condition.

The victim was then transferred to a hospital in Medellin where she is still receiving treatment.

The wife told cops that at least two other people were involved in the alleged attack and the authorities have confirmed that they are investigating the claim.

According to local media, the 23-year-old nurse had been having an affair with the victim’s husband for six years.

Mobile phone messages suggested that the husband was finding it difficult to leave his wife for the nurse.

Meanwhile, the suspect was arrested in the hospital where she works and will be charged with attempted homicide, according to police spokesman Pablo Ruiz.

The investigation is ongoing.
