This is the moment images of the COVID-19 virus are penned onto a child’s hands before she has to scrub them off at the sink to earn points.

The video was shared on social media by the General Council of Official Associations of Nursing of Spain to show kids how to wash their hands properly.

According to Spanish media, the initiative was the brainchild of nurse Santiago Santana.

The footage shows images of the COVID-19 virus being inked onto children’s hands with felt tip pens by their parents.

A young girl is then seen washing her hands with soap at the sink until the penned images are gone.

According to local media, parents should award their child with a point whenever they completely scrub off the drawing and give them a treat every time they earn 20 points.

The video was posted with the message: “Although it seems like a simple task, making children spend the necessary amount of time doing it [washing their hands] can be a real challenge.”

The clip has been emailed to parents of numerous schools across Spain to help curb the spread of COVID-19 in the country.

As of 24th March, the Spanish Ministry of Health has reported 39,673 cases of COVID-19 and 2,696 deaths.
