“I recognized the numbers as soon as they came up on the screen and I knew I was a big winner! I had to pause the TV and look over the numbers a few times to make sure I wasn’t mistaken.”

The 62-year-old recently claimed his prize and reportedly plans to save his winnings, putting them towards his retirement.

Doerr said: “Winning is a great feeling and is going to allow me to retire earlier than I planned.”

The Michigan State lottery said: “The Powerball jackpot was last won on August 3.”

As of Monday, 7th November, the Powerball lottery jackpot had swelled to USD 1.9 billion (GBP 1.65 billion), a world record.
