This footage shows the moment two sleeping schoolgirls are sent flying from their seats and into a windscreen when their tired taxi driver nods off and crashes on the side of a road.

The violet crash happened in the city of Zunyi in China’s south-western province of Guizhou on 30th June.

Security footage from the taxi driver’s car shows him desperately trying to keep himself awake during the trip.

The tired cabbie fails to keep himself awake despite managing to snap out of it the first time he fully shuts his eyelids. But when he falls asleep again, he does not wake up until four seconds later.

The video shows the driver opening his eyes wide in shock as he realises he has strayed off the road and is about to crash – but there is little he can do to prevent the impact.

The two schoolgirls in the back seat, who are not wearing seat belts, are completely unaware as they are both sent flying forward into the windscreen.

The cabbie also appears not to have worn his seat belt, and he disappears out of frame along with his seat.

The video ends with at least one of the girls still appearing to be moving inside the car.

According to local media, the trio were taken to hospital for treatment, but their exact conditions have not been reported.
