A nine-year-old girl has been found dead down a well with her hands bound behind her back and a heavy stone tied around her neck.
The girl – named as Gina Mercimek – was discovered near her home in the south-central Turkish city of Kilis on Wednesday, 5th April.
A male florist – named only as H. B. in local media – has been seized by the police.
Gina’s body was found in the 12-metre (39-foot) well on his property after she went missing.
The police said that her hands were tied behind her back and a rock was tied around her neck.
CCTV footage reportedly showed Gina, whose family is originally from Hraytan, Syria, arriving in the neighbourhood from school before disappearing near the suspect’s home.
And her death has provoked widespread outrage in Turkey, where the number of Syrians being murdered has increased, according to local media.
There are currently 3.7 million Syrian refugees living in Turkey, according to official figures from the Turkish authorities.
The investigation into Gina’s death is ongoing.
