Newsflash obtained footage from the Vigili del Fuoco, as well as a short statement, according to which the incident took place at the Mauro Scarlato hospital in the Italian city of Scafati, on 12th October.

The blaze reportedly engulfed the entire third floor of the hospital, where some patients and the pharmacy rooms were located.

Footage shows the massive flames spreading towards the outside of the hospital walls as window glass shatters and crumbles to the ground.

Firefighters who were at the scene with a tank truck, a ladder truck and other vehicles worked tirelessly to tackle the inferno.

Patients that were hospitalised below and on the third floor were immediately transferred to another wing of the hospital, and no one was injured.

After a few hours of struggle, the firefighters were eventually able to bring the flames under control.

Fire experts are reportedly still investigating the cause of the fire, but claimed they suspect it resulted after a short circuit occurred in a refrigerator that was used to store medicines.
