Neymar has said 2019 was “a year of learning” calling it “difficult both personally and professionally” but he thinks Paris Saint-Germain “have a chance” to win the Champions League.
The comments came during an interview with Brazilian online sports news outlet Globo Esporte where Neymar, 27, spoke about overcoming injury and his objectives for 2020.
When speaking about the challenges he faced last year, Neymar said: “It was a year of overcoming challenges. 2019 was a tough year for me in every sense, both professionally and personally.
“It was a year for learning with many twists and turns. I was injured and had to get back on my feet. Then I was injured again, so it was filled with challenges and unexpected turns.
“It was a year of a lot of learning and a lot of experience. May 2020 be better.”
The Brazilian international went on to speak about his goals for the current season saying: “My main expectation is to win everything I can with Paris and the Brazilian national team.
“Look for new challenges, get to the final of the Champions League and win the Copa America again.”
When asked specifically about Paris Saint-Germain’s chances of winning the Champions League, Neymar said: “We are fitter and stronger in every sense this year than before.
“We have a chance, yes. Even though Paris has never won the Champions League, we are going to fight for everything. We know our quality and our squad.
“Obviously we hope that at the end of the day we can be there in the decisive moment.”
Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) are set to play St-Etienne today (Wednesday) in the League Cup quarter-finals as they sit top of Ligue 1 with 45 points, seven ahead of second-place Marseille.
They were drawn to face German club giants Borussia Dortmund on 18th February in the Champions League round of 16.
