This newborn boy has been found after he was left abandoned in the street inside a pizza box.

The baby was apparently abandoned by his grandfather who said he could not afford to look after the child after the death of his daughter, who was apparently the mother of the child.

The newborn boy was left inside the pizza box wrapped in a blanket on the pavements between the streets of Allende and Zacatecas, in the municipality of Tlaltenango, which is in the north central Mexican state Zacatecas.

The local Civil Protection of the municipality confirmed the circumstances in a statement published on social media where they said that the pizza box also contained a handwritten note from the grandfather.

He had written: “Take care of my grandson, my daughter died while giving birth and I do not have anything to take care of him, I wish he has a better life and God forgives me.”

Civil Protection officers took the baby in for medical tests at a clinic of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS).

Municipal authorities asked the prosecution of Zacatecas and the prosecution of Protection of Children, Adolescents and Family of Zacatecas to investigate the case.

After the baby was found to be healthy, it was taken to the Placido Domingo children’s home, located in the municipality of Guadalupe.

There have meanwhile been a rush of people volunteering to adopt the child although it will now need to formally go through official procedures for a suitable family to be found.

The investigation is ongoing and so far the grandfather has not been found.

Tlaltenango mayor Miguel Varela Pinedo said he would be make sure the costs of looking after the baby would be covered from his budget and added that it was a tragedy that the young child like this was abandoned for financial reasons.
