An abandoned newborn has been found by a woman who spotted this snow-covered basket lying beside an icy road in a remote rural area.

The incident took place in the village of Crljenac in the eastern Serbian borough of Malo Crnice when the woman, identified as Biljana Topalovic, went to visit her mother with her brother.

She said: “On our way back, my brother and I were chatting when I noticed a basket. It caught my attention because it seemed full and the blanket was already covered in snow.

“While we were wondering what it could be, we heard a sound coming from the basket that sounded like a cat or dog.”

Without even considering that it was a baby inside the Moses basket, Biljana knocked on some neighbouring doors but no one knew anything about it.

However, the siblings suddenly spotted one of the newborn’s little legs and were so shocked that they could not even remember the number for the emergency services.

According to local media, they brought the baby boy home to warm him up and called for assistance. The tiny tot was immediately rushed to a hospital in the city of Pozarevac for checks.

Police are currently trying to trace the abandoned boy’s parents.

Netizen ‘Sanja’ commented: “How could they just leave him like that? I have been trying to get pregnant for six years and would give anything to have a baby like this.”
