The reportedly inexperienced paraglider was descending during a solo flight when she apparently failed to notice the thick, taut power cables and flew right into them.

Images show her parachute having snagged on the lines, with the woman risking a potentially fatal electrocution at any moment.

The local Emergency Management Office said it ordered the district branch of the Chongqing Electric Power Corporation to turn off a section of the grid in order to cut power to the lines on which the woman was trapped.

According to reports, the woman, who is said to have been suspended more than 100 metres (330 feet) above the ground, was ordered by her instructor to open her reserve chute.

This ultimately saved her life as she was blown off the power lines during the rescue and was able to land back on the ground, the fire service said.

Rescuers said the woman was not harmed but was shaken by the experience.

She was piggybacked off the mountain.
