A new guest in the quarantined hotel in Tenerife has been taken to hospital after being diagnosed with coronavirus – becoming the sixth confirmed case in the British holidaymaker hotspot.

The latest sufferer, whose nationality and name have not been revealed, checked into the H10 Costa Adeje Palace hotel on the island of Tenerife six days after a group of ten Italian citizens checked in the same hotel.

Five of the Italian group are now hospitalised with the coronavirus, which is officially named COVID-19 by the World Health Organization.

The unnamed guest was reportedly subject to controls but was not quarantined in their room. Reports state they do not have symptoms of the virus and the regional health department have launched an investigation into how they were infected.

The case means seven people have now been hospitalised in the Canary Islands with COVID-19, six in Tenerife and one on the nearby island of La Gomera. All are reportedly in a stable condition.

Yesterday (Monday), around 193 guests of the 723 clients isolated in the hotel of Adeje for a week have left the facilities, the Health regional department reported on a press statement.

One hundred and ninety three of the 723 clients quarantined in the hotel for a week had left the facilities as of yesterday, the regional Health Department reported.

Reports state the latest case is not expected to delay the release of other guests from the quarantine. The other five of the Italian group have been isolated in their rooms.

The first group to leave the quarantine had reportedly checked in on Monday and had not had contact with the Italian group. Guests must have a negative coronavirus test and not have suffered flu-like symptoms in the previous 24 hours to be released.

Guests in the hotel wrote a message thanking the staff, writing: “We are grateful to the staff that are making our involuntary stay a little better. Please spare a tip for them or a little thank you note.”

Spain has a reported 120 confirmed cases of coronavirus.
