The cute scene was filmed at a Spring Festival event in the city of Fuzhou in the south-eastern Chinese province of Fujian, and the footage has been widely circulated on the social network Douyin, which is what TikTok is known as in China.

According to the news site Baidu, the family decided to watch a fireworks show on a public square, but their pet dog found the Spring Festival event very stressful.

As a result, the panicked animal sought shelter behind its owner’s back and followed the boy around on its hind legs whenever he moved.

In the footage, the boy is seen watching the fireworks show with his mother and pet dog, which is standing on its hind legs and gripping his jacket as it cowers behind the lad.

The dog looks to the side at one attraction of sparklers and firecrackers before the boy decides to take a look at another display about to start in front of him.

The boy is seen shuffling forwards as the nervous dog takes funny little steps to keep up with him and remain protected behind the lad’s body.
