This is the moment a Spanish neighbourhood celebrate their neighbour’s 89th birthday in lockdown by singing to her from their balconies – leaving her visibly emotional.

The touching moment was shared by Spanish actress Aurora Carbonell, 44, from the Spanish capital of Madrid on Monday 30th March.

Carbonell shows how she and other residents celebrated their neighbour Lola’s 89th birthday as best they could during the lockdown due to the coronavirus, officially named COVID-19 by the World Health Organization.

The video shows the moment Lola can be seen clapping and smiling as all her neighbours applaud her before singing ‘Happy Birthday’.

Carbonell is heard saying “Lola, look at the posters. It says ‘Happy Birthday’ with your face Lola” who is heard becoming emotional herself as the 89-year-old realises they were meant for her.

Lola covers her face as she becomes emotional and starts crying from the kind act. She blows kisses at all her neighbours as they can sing ‘Happy Birthday’.

Carbonell continues to point out posters and neighbours joining the celebration when a trumpet starts playing the birthday song prompting them to sing for Lola once more apparently surprising Carbonell herself, who helped organise the event.

The Spanish actress shows several posters from neighbours across the street and next door with Lola’s face and happy birthday wishes on them.

Carbonell focuses on Lola one more time clapping and blowing kisses in gratitude for her neighbours as the video comes to an end.

Carbonell captioned the video: “Today, Lolita turns 89, she is at home alone but we look after her. It is difficult times, she has also lost friends, has fear and anguish and nobody can hug her.

“Today the neighbours have taken to their balconies to sing her “Happy Birthday”, they made her posters even drawing her face in one.

“In the worst of times, it brings out the best in each of us, all united. She says it has been one of the nicest and most emotional moments of her life.

“What she doesn’t know is that it was for us too. She is an example of overcoming obstacles and positivity. We love you, Lolita.”

Spain has remained in a state of alarm since 14th March forcing all citizens with non-essential jobs to remain in their homes to stop the further spread of COVID-19.
