This is the moment a group of neighbours cling to a young girl who fell down the side of their building from four-storeys up but managed to grab onto a railing outside their second-floor window.

The tot, aged five, managed to unlock the fire escape on the window burglar bars of her family’s fourth-floor home, and she plunged down the side of the high-rise on 18th June after losing her balance

However, the lucky girl from the city of Jishou, which is in Central China’s Hunan Province, became stuck outside the security bars two floors below.

She was spotted by her second-floor neighbour, who heard her cries while preparing baby formula for her own child.

The mum reportedly ran towards the tot and held on to her from inside the metal grill; however, she was unable to then open her front door for other residents who wanted to help.

Neighbour Mr Wu recalled: “I ran up to the second floor but the woman inside was holding the girl and nobody could open the door.

“Then someone from building management brought a short ladder and held the girl from the outside, allowing the woman to open the door for me.

“Together we clung tightly to the girl from the inside.”

The residents living in the Xincheng Gardens Residential District were relieved minutes later when the fire service arrived with a 6-metre (20-foot) ladder.

Footage of the rescue shows Mr Wu and another male resident still clinging to the five-year-old from inside the woman’s home, with the mother having stepped away.

A firefighter is later seen inside the home, securing the crying tot before she is carried down the ladder by one of the rescuers.

Fire Captain Zhou Xing said: “The metal burglar bars were not easy to remove, so we decided to rescue the girl from the outside.

“We let an experienced firefighter secure the girl with a safety rope, while another rescuer took the child and fastened her to his body.

“We comforted the girl and eventually rescued her in about two minutes.”

The child, who was found with a cast around her left foot, suffered no additional injuries during the scare.

According to reports, she lives with her grandparents and had been left at home alone at the time of the incident.
