This is the moment a dad is seen sprinting towards his car after the man’s curious son put the parked vehicle in reverse and drove it straight into a huge roadworks hole.
Saloon car owner Mr Chen, from Zhangping County in East China’s Fujian Province, is said to have parked his car without turning off its engine or putting the handbrake on.
His six-year-old son, who reports say treated the vehicle ‘like a theme park dodgem’, then reached for the gear lever from the back seat and tried to imitate how his dad drives the car.
Footage of the accident at roughly 4:30pm local time on 1st September shows Mr Chen’s white saloon car slowly rolling backwards as the boy puts the automatic gear in reverse.
The boy then appears to shift back and forth between D and R as the car rolls forwards into the lamp post and then starts going backwards towards the large ditch dug for roadworks.
Mr Chen spots his runaway car and sprints for it, then attempts in vain to reach the brake from the driver’s side door.
The video him unable to stop his saloon car from reversing into the roadwork ditch, with an image showing the damage car sitting at the bottom of the hole.
According to reports, Mr Chen’s boy was unharmed, but his vehicle was badly damaged.
It is unclear whether Zhangping police will fine Mr Chen for the blunder.
