She then walks onto the pavement and has to move around a mound of earth left next to a utility pole.

The grandmother then steps into a puddle that appears to be covering part of the pavement and roadside.

Unbeknownst to the woman, the rainwater is covering a huge hole left by construction workers and she plunges straight into it.

The water seems to be too deep for her to stand in, and at one point she loses hold of the baby.

While the frantic woman struggles to keep her head above water, the baby appears to be lying face down on the surface.

Luckily, several passersby rush over to pluck the infant out of the water before helping the shocked grandmother out.

According to local media, both of them escaped with only minor injuries and were treated at a nearby hospital.

The pit was reportedly dug during road works and was later filled with water during rainstorms on Thursday night.

The authorities were informed of the incident and they promptly arrived to cordon off the hole.

Meanwhile, a complaint has been filed with the police against the building contractor as the investigation gets underway.
