This is the bizarre moment a naked man throws a punch at a police officer after walking down the road in his underwear and standing in the way of passing cars.

The startling scene were recorded by onlookers on a boulevard in the city of Ramnicu Valcea, in southern Romania’s Valcea County and have since been posted online.

In the video, the man, who has not been named but is 51-years-old, can be seen walking towards oncoming traffic in just his underwear.

The man appears to be trying to stop cars from passing him as he moves into different lanes and shouts at the drivers.

Another clip taken later on shows the man now fully naked being approached by a cop from behind. 

The officer grabs the man but he reacts violently, punching the cop in the face three times before backing away.

The man tries to stop the officer and his colleague from coming towards him before two onlookers help the cops take the man to the tarmac and arrest him.

Valcea County Police Inspectorate spokesperson, Catalin Udrea, said: “The police officers were informed that a man was marching undressed on Calea lui Traian Street. When the police tried to move him out of the road, he tried to hit a policeman who was trying to handcuff him. 

“He was led to the police station of Ramnicu Valcea. The man was not cooperative and his identity could not be established in the first instance. As a result of the subsequent checks, he was identified as 51 years old, from the Vaideeni commune.”

It is unclear why he was behaving erratically but Udrea said he admitted to the Psychiatry Department of Hospital no. 2 in Valcea before escaping on the same day.

A case of abuse against a representative of the authorities and exhibitionism was opened. It is unclear if the suspect has been charged.
