This is the moment a long, mysterious object with an apparent smoke trial slowly descends from the sky and lands in the sea off the Indonesia coast.

The incident was filmed at Jangkar Beach in the regency of Situbondo in the Indonesia province of East Java and was widely debated on social media.

Facebook user ‘Kh Popeye Watermelon’ shared the clip and asked netizens: “What is this anchor-like thing that fell from the sky?”

In the video, a long, black object descends from the sky, apparently with smoke trailing behind it, with some people speculating that it was a broken-down UFO.

Within a short time, the mysterious object was swallowed by the waves.

Emanuel Sungging Mumpungi of the National Institute of Aeronautics and Space, the Indonesian government space agency, said they were aware of the social media video, adding that a team was heading to the location.

Mumpungi said: “We are still waiting for the location team to confirm.”

The aeronautics expert added that it could have been a type of balloon, and that “it is too slow to be a falling object from space.

Netizen ‘Gabriel Notonegoro’ pondered: “Maybe it was fairy who lost her wings and forgot her way home? Lol.”

YouTube user ‘Roy Valen’ said: “Mysterious!”•
