The police are investigating the case and have not divulged the suspected motive of the crime “so as not to compromise their work”.

The victim was buried in the Sao Jose Cemetery in the city centre. However, his coffin was dug up and set alight at around 8pm on Monday, 25th October.

The cemetery had to be sealed off and all burials suspended on Tuesday, 26th October, and the City Hall has said the desecration will be investigated.

Before being killed, Joao Vitor da Silva de Amorim known as MC Pitbull da Firma posted request for help on social networks because of alleged threats he was receiving. (Newsflash)

MC Pitbull da Firma was a ‘brega funk’ (a Brazilian urban genre of music) singer. His 2021 song ‘Chamo Teu Vulgo Malvadao’ has hundreds of thousands of views on YouTube.

The singer had over 5,000 followers on Instagram, and his last post potentially offers a clue as to why he may have been killed.

He shared a photo showing himself and another man captioned: “This arsehole here who killed Pedro must be caught.”

Over the captioned photo, he posted his own caption reading: “This is a flat-out lie. You’ve posted a photo of a guy who had nothing to do with the crime. The guy’s an MC, not a criminal.”

He wrote alongside the photo: “They’re making fakes and inventing stuff about me without me having anything to do with it. It’s jealousy. They’re doing this to shake me, but it will only make me stronger.”

Desecrating a corpse or a person’s ashes is a crime in Brazil punishable with one to three years in prison and a monetary fine.
