A beautiful young ballerina murdered while walking home from a class teaching kids had a premonition in a dream that she was about to die, which has now been turned into a book.

Her devastated family said that pretty Ceren Ozdemir, a 20-year old ballerina in her third year in Ordu University’s Department of Fine Arts, had told them a week before her murder by an escaped criminal that she’d had a bizarre dream about the sea.

She told them she had found the sea in her dream terrifying, and had run back home to her family, but she could not get inside because somebody had fired a gun, and the house was then surrounded by police and soldiers. She had then seen a man that she did not know emerge from the sea and come towards her before she woke up from the nightmare.

The young woman had written the story down on a piece of paper, as well as discussing it with her family, who believe it was a premonition of the fact that she was stalked and killed after emerging from a ballet class by convicted murderer Ozgur Arduc, originally jailed for 20 years over another killing in 2005.

He was supposed to remain in jail, but had escaped on 1 December last year and told the court he had been roaming the streets in the Black Sea coastal city of Ordu looking for someone to kill.

When interviewed by police about the murder he admitted: “I followed many women planning to kill them. But I could not do it as there were many people around.”

He said he had already stolen a knife because he knew he wanted to kill someone, but had constantly not found the right moment until he suddenly spotted Ceren Ozdemir, a 20-year old ballerina in her third year in Ordu University’s Department of Fine Arts.

She had just left the class where she had been teaching children and he followed her, and after asking a question so that he could approach, he had suddenly pulled out the knife and stabbed her twice before grabbing a handbag and running off.

He later told the court: “I’m not sorry for what I did.”

He is currently in custody awaiting trial after attempting to kill the police officers that tried to arrest him, after already being convicted over the murder of the young ballerina.

Her story has now been turned into a book which centres around her dream and includes a copy describing what happened in the young woman’s handwriting which she left in her room and was found by her family after she died.

They said at the time they had thought it was just a dream, but after finding the handwritten note had remembered the discussion, and become convinced it was a premonition of what was to happen to her.

Campaigners are urging the judiciary to be stricter with enforcing existing laws, but instead, it seems the government contemplating going the other way and withdrawing from Istanbul Convention which offers protection to women against domestic violence.

Proceeds from the sale of the book by author Birol Ozturk will be used to help other young women study at the fine arts Academy where the dead ballerina was a student.

He said: “As soon as she woke up, she wrote her dream on a piece of paper. She was telling her sister about it at breakfast. Her family told her that it was just a dream. After her death, they came to believe that this dream was a premonition for what was to later happen to Ceren.”

The dead girl’s mother Gufer Ozdemir added: “I am hoping that my daughter’s life in this book will help people to realise the tragedy of what is happening and make them care for each other more. I also want to thank everyone who has been so kind and considerate. I hope the book in some way might make a difference.”
