A mother accused of killing her two children after they were found dead and their bodies tied up has been seized by police.
Police had been responding to a series of apparently deranged calls from the family home in Miami, Florida, USA, when they discovered the bodies.
Shockingly, their mother, Odette Joassaint, 41, told them: “They’re inside. Go get them. I don’t want them.”
The children – Laura, 5, and Jeffrey, 3 – were reportedly found bound by their wrists, ankles, and neck.
The incident took place at the family home in the neighbourhood of Little Haiti on the evening of 12th April.
The results of an autopsy have yet to be released, but the police said the probable cause of death was strangulation.
The children’s father, Frantzy Belval, was photographed holding up pictures of his young children with tears streaming down his face.
He told local media: “One is Jeffrey, and one’s Laura.”
Family friends said Belval and the suspect were together a couple of years ago, but the children were living with their mother.
Family friend Darlene Petion said: “You’re a mother, what do you feel? There’s a devil inside of your head.”
The police stated that they received calls from the suspect on the night in question, adding that she appeared to be suffering from a mental episode.
Miami-Dade Police Department spokesperson Officer Michael Vega said: “We received several calls to 911. They were calling but she wasn’t saying much.”
When the police arrived at the home, the children were unresponsive and tied up.
Vega stated: “The one thing she did say to officers: ‘They’re inside. Go get them. I don’t want them’.”
The police said they had attended reports for trespassing, disturbances and domestic violence at the home before, but never for an incident concerning the children.
The investigation is ongoing.
