A popular young businessman and only child has fallen to his death in a horror bungee jumping accident after the rope apparently snapped at a popular beauty spot.
Adam Esteves Gomes Dias Martins, 25, fell to his death from the 100-metre (328-foot) Prainha Viaduct, in the municipality of Antonio Dias, in the south-eastern Brazilian state of Minas Gerais, on 3rd October.
The exact cause of the accident has not been confirmed. However, local media have suggested that either his rope snapped or it was too long.
Esteves’ friends, who he had been practising the sport with, called the emergency services. However, Esteves was already dead when they arrived, and they had to treat some of his friends, who were in shock.
The company that organised the jump has not been named. However, local media have revealed that Esteves paid BRL 50 (GBP 7) for the jump.
Esteves, an only child, worked as a computer technician in the neighbouring municipality of Nova Era.
His cousin, 33-year-old Natalia Nogueira, told local media: “He was a golden boy, very wonderful and always studious, as well as being loved by his relatives. He was always by his mother’s side. At 25, he already had his own company and he’d bought his own car. Unfortunately, he’s gone. He was the pride of the family. Everyone in Nova Era knew this. It’s a huge loss.”
Other family members and friends have been paying their respects to Esteves, who was buried in Nova Era on 4th October, on social media.
The Prainha Viaduct is a popular bungee jumping spot. An investigation into Esteves’ death is underway.
