Hallan Luis Silva Ramos, 7, died after he fell from a height of about 20 metres (65.6 feet) while trying to jump from one apartment window to another in the neighbourhood of Andarai, in the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

His mum Jessica Silva Ramos was reportedly out for a boat ride and had left Hallan and his brother, aged 9, home alone when the incident happened at around 11.30am on Sunday, 26th February.

Her third son, aged 4, had reportedly gone to another person’s home.

Following the tragic fall, witnesses called firefighters, who rushed to the scene in order to try and save the little boy.

But they could not help and only proclaimed him dead upon arrival, before removing his body from the scene at around 4.45pm in his mother’s absence.

Reports revealed that the mother had frequently left her children home alone to go out partying with friends, which was also the case that weekend.

But she denied having done so previously, and claimed that they were supposed to spend the day with their father, who she was separated from.

He was reportedly on the way to pick them up prior to her leaving the flat.

Jessica said: “I didn’t know that the father had not gone to pick him up, nor that they were alone.

“The father contacted me at 12pm, and shortly afterwards I received a message saying that my son had fallen.”

She then said in a Twitter post: “Nothing and not even time will ease the pain I’m feeling, and this hole that will stay forever in my life.

“I’m not going to touch this subject anymore, I just want them to stop talking about what they don’t know.

”I didn’t leave my children alone, my only mistake was having trusted someone I shouldn’t have.

“Respect my pain, only I know how much I loved and did everything for my children!

“And yes, I will carry that guilt for the rest of my life.”

Jessica was questioned by investigators at the 20th Police Station on Monday night, 27th February, and faces charges for abandonment resulting in death.

Eight other people have reportedly testified so far.

The investigation continues.
