This mum who allegedly threw her newborn from a rooftop terrace before the lucky tot survived and was rescued from between two walls by firefighters has been arrested.

The incident took place on Plutarco Elias Calles Street in the colony of Santiago Norte in the municipality of Iztacalco located in the central Mexican state of Mexico State after neighbours heard the baby’s cries coming from behind a wall.

Investigators believe that the mother threw her newborn from a roof terrace and the baby girl ended up between the walls of two buildings after falling around three metres.

Prosecutors have confirmed that they have arrested 22-year-old Jacqueline Armenta Romero and that she has been charged with attempted homicide.

According to local media, she gave birth to the baby in her seventh month of pregnancy following a botched abortion.

She was admitted to the Rodolfo Antonio de Mucha Macias Hospital with injuries related to an abortion attempt, according to reports.

The young mum returned home last Wednesday and was arrested on Friday for the attempted murder of her baby.

The baby was rescued after being thrown from a rooftop terrace and survived after her tiny body was wedged between two walls.

The baby was then breastfed by a woman firefighter and that restored colour to her face before she was taken to the hospital.

The mother will be held in custody at the Santa Martha Acatitla prison as the investigation continues.
