A seven-year-old girl has been found dead in a creek three days after her disappearance and her devastated mother suspects foul play.
Ikranur Tirsi, 7, disappeared near her home in the district of Bulancak in the northern Turkish province of Giresun.
Tirsi was playing in the garden with her garden when she went to see the cows at around 6pm. When the girl failed to return, her cousins sounded the alarm.
The local authorities and a group of volunteers searched the area with sniffer dogs, drones, and thermal cameras.
The team of around 150 people eventually found the girl’s body in Adakoy Creek, about seven kilometres (4.3 miles) from her home.
The police are investigating whether the girl possible fell into the creek herself or whether foul play was afoot.
A preliminary autopsy did not find any signs of violence, however, the results of an Istanbul Forensic Medicine test are yet to be announced.
Meanwhile, the local authorities have collected DNA samples from 20 people including family members which will also be analysed.
The girl’s devastated mother suspects that someone was involved in her daughter’s death.
She said: “The killer must have been familiar or my daughter would not have gone with him. Anyone who kills children should be executed.”
The investigation is ongoing.
