A mother of two has been reportedly killed by her partner after she posted a collage of smiling photos of the couple, next to which she wrote: “Your happiness is mine”.
The lifeless body of 53-year-old Sandra Ribeiro was found in her home in the coastal city of Sao Vicente in the Brazilian state of Sao Paulo on Monday, 6th December.
Her partner, 50-year-old Carlos Alberto de Abreu, is considered the prime suspect after the couple were caught on surveillance cameras arriving at the property by car on the day of the alleged crime (Sunday, 5th December), with the man later filmed leaving alone on a bicycle.
He had already assaulted her a few days earlier, according to a neighbour.
The Civil Police (Brazil’s investigative police force) registered the case as femicide and requested the suspect’s temporary detention, which was granted by the judiciary. However, as of yesterday (Wednesday, 8th December), he remained a fugitive from justice.
The couple had been together for over a year, and the woman frequently posted about how much she loved her partner on social media, including one shortly before the murder.
One of her posts, made on the suspect’s birthday, featured a collage of smiling photos of the couple, next to which she wrote: “Your happiness is mine, for that reason I will never stop fighting for you to achieve your dreams. Happy birthday, my love! May another year of life bring you many achievements and may we continue together and happy like to this day! May the heavenly Father bless you greatly! A big kiss on your heart! I love you!”
An anonymous relative told the news portal G1 she had no idea the man had a violent streak.
The victim was a mother of two, and it was her son who arrived home to find his mother’s dead body, prompting him to call the police.
She was buried at the Areia Branca Cemetery in the neighbouring coastal city of Santos on Tuesday afternoon (7th December).
Preliminary information suggests she suffered a head injury and may have been subsequently asphyxiated. However, the autopsy report was yet to reach the police at the time of reporting.
The search for the suspect continues.
