A young mother has given birth to premature twins on her 15th birthday and the baby boys are reportedly battling for their lives in intensive care with lung conditions.

Reports said that the unnamed teenager from the village of Belenkoye in central Ukraine’s Zaporizhia Oblast region gave birth to the twins during the 33rd week of her pregnancy.

Local volunteer Zlata Nekrasova said that the teenager’s grandmother was not allowed into intensive care ward to see the boys because she did not have the medication she needed to buy beforehand.

Reports said that the family are experiencing financial hardship and Nekrasova volunteered to help with some of the medical expenses.

The kindhearted woman said that both boys have lung and internal bleeding problems and called on others to help the cash-strapped young parents to raise money.

The volunteer said that the father works many hours just to make 150 UAH (5 GBP) a day.

Netizen ‘Valentina Golosova’ said about one of the babies: “Oh my God, he is completely blue. I hope they both survive.”

‘Kupriyanov Yuriy’ commented: “I wish they could have found the money for condoms when it was needed…”
