This is the unusual moment a ‘mother dog’ tells off her adopted tiger for playing too roughly with its lion sibling.

The domestic row was filmed at the animals’ enclosure at Beijing Wildlife Park in the Chinese capital Beijing.

According the news site Sina, the park uses dogs to act as surrogate mothers for cubs of big cats that were abandoned by their biological mums.

Zoo bosses have often appealed to the local owners of lactating dogs in the past.

A female golden retriever has hit the headlines in recent years for raising tiger, lion, and hyena pups at the Chinese zoo.

Xie Yan, a tiger expert at the Institute of Zoology at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, explained: “In the wild, tigers will abandon their children in exceptional cases, and the chance is bigger when they are in captivity.”

However, he pointed out: “One dog cannot feed that many cubs and pups.”

One mother dog was recently filmed scolding her adopted tiger for playing too roughly with its lion sibling.

In the footage, the tiger is seen sitting on top of the resting lion and nibbling its face as it protests.

At one point the tiger lovingly licks the lion’s face, but quickly returns to biting it, causing the big cat to growl and spring to its feet.

The whole scene is watched by a small dog sitting in the grass who, furious that nap time is being disturbed, jumps to her feet and confronts the naughty tiger with a stern bark.

The scolded tiger then runs off as the little pooch glares after it.
