A mum who allegedly told cops her baby had died while he was breastfeeding has reportedly confessed to drowning the eight-month-old in a bucket of water.

The incident took place in the rural village of Araujo in the eastern Argentine province of Buenos Aires and reports said that the mum, identified as 34-year-old Silvana Fiori, has confessed to the infanticide during police interrogation.

She allegedly told police that the baby had suffocated while breastfeeding.

According to local media, the police first arrived at the house after receiving a report of an accident involving a baby.

Cops on the scene confirmed the baby’s death and quizzed the mother, who reportedly told them that her son had accidentally died while breastfeeding.

She was then taken to the police station to give a formal statement where she later confessed to killing her baby by drowning him in a buck of water, according to local media.

Leading prosecutor in the case, Sebastian Villalba, ordered the mother’s arrest and sent a team of investigators to her house to gather evidence and find out more about the alleged infanticide.

According to the latest reports, Fiori has since been charged with murder as the investigation continues.

The motives behind the alleged killing are currently unknown.
