A 14-year-old girl has been rescued after being found chained up at home by her mum who did not want her to go outside.

The girl, identified as Guadalupe, was found chained at home in the village of Tetela del Monte located in the municipality of Cuernavaca in the central Mexican state of Morelos.

Local residents reported the situation to the authorities, and the state Secretariat of Public Security sent officers to the house to investigate.

At the house, the teenager was found sitting on a chair with her ankle chained to the floor.

The victim reportedly told the officers that her mum locks her up because she does not want her to go outside.

The police said that there was a one-year-old toddler in the house as well, who is believed to be the younger sister of the teenage girl.

The teenager has been taken into care by local social services as an investigation into domestic violence is underway.

Meanwhile, the baby girl has been taken in by her grandmother, while the mum is investigated for abusing her teen daughter, according to the newspaper Excelsior.

The police probe is ongoing.
