Cops in Indonesia have arrested a married mum and her secret lover for murdering her nine-month-old baby daughter because she looked more like the lover than the husband.

Ayu Olivia, 35, and the neighbour with whom she was having an affair, Muhamad Amin, 40, killed little Kartika Suci Rahayu by making her drink poison and then smothering her.

It is not clear on what date the murder took place but according to police, Ayu and Muhamad had been having an affair and at some point made a pact to kill the youngster and elope together in secret.

Police officer Hari Budianto said: “After the victim was born, rumours spread that the victim’s face looked like (Muhamad’s).”

It has not yet been proven whether the daughter was from the husband or the lover.

The suspects fled the city of Bandar Lampung after killing the youngster but were apprehended by the police a short while later.

They were charged with infanticide and premeditated murder and could be handed the death penalty if found guilty.

The investigation is ongoing.
