A mother and her female partner have been jailed for 129 years for stabbing, dismembering, skinning, and barbecuing the latter’s own nine-year-old son.

Rosana Auri da Silva Candido, 27, and Kacyla Pryscila Santiago Damasceno Pessoa, 28, were sentenced in the Brazilian administrative region of Samambaia on 25th November to 65 and 64 years in prison respectively.

The pair was charged with the murder of Rosana’s nine-year-old son Rhuan Maycon da Silva Castro on the night of 31st May this year.

Rhuan was knifed 11 times in total in the chest and eyes while he was sleeping, mostly by Rosana while Kacyla held him down.

The cruel mother then beheaded her son, who she later admitted she hated, reportedly while he was still alive.

The pair then dismembered his body and skinned his face.

They tried to burn his remains on a barbecue grill before abandoning the idea and packing the body parts into two rucksacks and a suitcase instead.

The police were called by two young witnesses who saw Rosana disposing of the suitcase near a nursery in the administrative region.

One of the two boys opened the abandoned suitcase out of curiosity and Rhuan’s head rolled out with a knife sticking out of it.

The couple was swiftly arrested at Kacyla’s house where they lived with Rhuan and Kacyla’s eight-year-old daughter, who allegedly witnessed the crime being committed.

Rosana later confessed to the police that she “felt hatred and no love for the child”.

It was determined that the crime was motivated by her dislike for the boy’s paternal family.

According to police officer Guilherme Melo, who coordinated the case: “Rosana said she is very vindictive and even compared herself to the God of justice in the Old Testament.”

The couple previously lived in the municipality of Rio Branco, some 2,267 kilometres (1,409 miles) away.

Kacyla’s daughter has since returned to Rio Branco to live with her father.

The eight-year-old girl had been reported as missing since 2014, when Kacyla and Rosana fled the municipality in secret, taking her and Rhuan with them.

Rhuan had been living with his paternal grandparents when he was kidnapped by Rosana. The boy’s father, Maycon Douglas Lima de Castro, who had custody of the child, reported him missing to the police at the time.

Rosana is said to have regularly tortured her son physically and psychologically.

On learning of the sentences, Maycon told local media: “It’s still too little, but at least they will never leave the jail again.”
