A mother who stabbed her four-year-old son to death as her mum watched on has been seized by police.
Accused Monica Nicole Figueroa, aged 43, has admitted wrapping the youngster in a blanket and repeatedly plunging the knife into him, after she was arrested on Monday, 13th March.
Her mother Mary Johnson, 64, has also been charged after apparently abandoning the boy without calling police.
Police in the city of Athens, Texas State, USA, named the victim as Grayson Hurt.
Local media reported that Johnson heard Grayson screaming and then saw her daughter hacking at a blanket with a knife on Sunday, 12th March.
But when she confronted her daughter, police say Figueroa threatened her and told her to leave.
Instead of calling police, Johnson went home and came back the following day and found her grandson’s body.
When she finally did call the police they discovered Grayson’s body partially covered with a blanket by the front door.
Athens TX Police Department said in a statement obtained by Newsflash: “Athens Police Officers then obtained a search warrant signed by 392nd District Judge Scott McKee to search the residence.
“The Athens Police Department also contacted the Henderson County Crimes Against Children Task Force to assist in the investigation.”
Preliminary investigations revealed that Figueroa had used an edged weapon to kill her son. She later admitted to killing him.
She was then booked and charged with capital murder of a person under the age of 10 at the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office.
Her bond was set at USD 2 million (GBP 1.65 million).
Johnson was charged with abandoning an endangered child, whilst her bond was set at USD 250,000 (GBP 207,562), according to jail records.
Meanwhile, authorities commissioned the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Science in the city of Dallas to carry out an autopsy on the victim.
The investigation continues.
