A mother and three children have been killed in a house blaze in Canada in the early hours of the morning.
The house fire took place on Upper Branch Road in the town of Auburndale in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia in the early hours of Saturday morning, 19th February.
Members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) in the town of Lunenburg, as well as Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) officials and firefighters, responded to the blaze at around 4am.
The emergency services said the property was fully engulfed in flames by the time they arrived.
The RCMP said: “Upon arrival, the house was fully engulfed in flames. It is believed six people were in the home at the time of the fire.”
According to local reports, a 36-year-old man and a four-year-old boy, believed to be the mother’s fiance and his son, managed to escape the fire and were taken to hospital by ambulance.
The RCMP said: “The remains of four other people (the woman and three children) were found inside the home.”
The mother, a teaching assistant, has been identified as Kaylea Savory, 33, by the head of the Bluenose Academy school, where she worked.
In a statement on the school website, principal Jennifer McMullen said two of the young victims were Hendrix Savory in Grade 3 and Harley Savory in Grade 6.
The South Shore Regional Centre for Education and the Tri-County Regional Centres for Education confirmed the third minor was a Grade-4 pupil at Greenfield Elementary in Greenfield.
The children were reportedly aged 11, 9 and 8.
The following day, the RCMP said it does not suspect the fire was suspicious. The investigation is ongoing.
Family friend Dianna started a GoFundMe page to assist the family, which has raised nearly USD 60,000 (www.gofundme.com/f/kaylea-harley-and-hendrix).
The friend wrote: “Early Saturday morning, the unthinkable happened. Kaylea, her 2 beautiful boys and her Fiance’s daughter lost their lives in a house fire. To say the family is devastated is an understatement. Kaylea’s fiance and his son survived.
“Kaylea is the daughter of Jim and Debbie Stewart. She grew up in Lunenburg and had a heart as big as the sky.
“As the family deals with their grief, I am hoping we can help a little by easing the expense this disaster will incur. If you can help, please do. If you can’t please say a prayer.
“I am a lifelong friend of Kaylea’s family. I have know them for almost over 40 years.”
